BRIEF HISTORY
The earliest record of Aston Bury Manor (Formerly the Manor of Estone) dates its existence prior to the Norman conquest; consisting of a manor house, originally thought to have been a moated property, set in approximately 70 acres of countryside.
It was owned originally by the half brother of William the Conqueror, Bishop De Bayeaux an appears in the Doomsday book. It was confiscated when the Bishop tried to buy the Papal Chair from Rome in the absence of his brother- an offence for which he was imprisoned.
Henri 1st then became master of Aston bury in the early twelfth century, on the anniversary of his death, his second wife Queen Ad Eliza bequeathed the manor and its lands to Benedictine monks for use as a monastery.
It remained as such until the reformation when it was razed to the ground by order of Henry VIII Circa 1540.
Henry VIII gave the estate to Sir Philip Boteler and remained in the Boteler family for almost 300 years, during which time it was restored as a Jacobean mansion with alterations, repairs and a further extension in the 17th Century.
On the death of John Boteler in 1778 the property was sold to a wealthy wine merchant Sir Thomas Rumbold. Although it has changed hands several times since then it has remained as a residential property.
In the 1990's the property was converted into 11 apartments set in grounds of 17 acres and boasts a paddock two lakes and a tennis court.
